Pork Supply chains in the EU - 15.06.2011
A new electronic learning resource that can be used for students and business has been developed and uploaded at the teaching and training platform www.porktraining.org
Europe is a large player in the global production of pork meat. To satisfy the changing consumer demands and to maintain a competitive market position, it is important to have an integrated knowledge of the sector throughout the supply chain. Based on the research in Module IV, a learning resource has been developed together with Nel Wognum from Wageningen University. The learning resource focuses on chain management.
The EU pork sector is characterised by great diversity. On the one hand large commodity pork supply chains can be identified while, on the other, there are many smaller supply chains that have regional characteristics or aim at specific, often also regional, products. In addition, systems supplying organic pork are increasingly gaining importance as a result of changing consumer demands with respect to animal welfare and environmental impact.
Q-PorkChains conduct research on chain management and consequently, three case studies are included in the learning resource "Pork Supply chains in the EU".
