At Best Care Pharmacy and Home Medical Equipment, customers may receive the COVID-19 recall, but other products are scarce.
“So home oxygen unit concentrators are rare as ventilators, you know, currently unavailable. We placed an order three months ago and it’s still pending, ”said owner and pharmacist Pashmina Patel.
Patel told KSBY that many of their products are made overseas, so it was difficult to coordinate these items and their transportation to the United States.
“These are our lifelines that can be for many people. And if they can’t, you know, if they can’t breathe and they can’t have oxygen equipment, it’s life threatening. So it can be dangerous. Even if their life-saving medicine is not available, it could be dangerous for people who need it, ”Patel explained.
The pharmacy ran out of home COVID-19 tests last week.
“So supply chain issues arise for a number of different reasons in manufacturing. If people aren’t able to work and you do, they if they’ve been exposed to COVID or if they’re sick or, you know, they have a family that’s been exposed to take care of it at the House. Then the production slows down and then we have transport problems at the port, ”she said.
Patel said that even if a shipment did arrive at the port, there might not be enough people to unload or there might not be enough trucks to transport the supplies.
“It’s because of COVID and because of the added cost. People pay more for a shipment. People pay more for transportation. And people have to pay employees overtime to, you know, keep up with the demand, ”Patel said.
She says they must have increased the price of some items by 20-30%.
The owner of Best Care Pharmacy is also a pharmacist and said she believes that if more people get their COVID-19 vaccines, it will help solve the supply chain problem.
