Food supply shortage affecting schools in Milford: here’s how

Dear Milford Public School Community Members,

As you know, the Milford School Food Service team has worked tirelessly over the past 18 months to ensure our students and their families receive nutritious meals, even in the midst of a global pandemic.

Sadly, the residual effects of the pandemic are now setting in, especially in the form of a tense supply chain – across the country.

You may have noticed this yourself on your own visits to the grocery store where many shelves are empty due to product shortages and you have to adjust “on the fly” in order to feed your family.

The Milford School Food Service team faces these same challenges every day, serving thousands of meals to our students and staff.

Today we ask for your patience as we resolve the many logistical challenges we face in order to serve healthy and nutritious meals to our students across the district.

The School Nutrition Association prepared this video to explain why and how the supply chain issue is affecting school cafeterias across the country. We ask you to watch this 2 minute video in order to better understand the challenges that we, as a nation, are working on.

As we continue to address these issues, please know that we are working with our distributors to get both the food and supplies we need to support our school nutrition program. But – be aware – we are also often forced to make changes ‘on the fly’ and have to change our menu at the last minute, often when we discover that a key ingredient has not arrived in our food deliveries. from our suppliers.

One last thought that we would like to share with you. Although the daily menu may be different from what we originally planned, please note that all students receive a complete and nutritious meal, prepared and served the same day. In order to find out what will be served in our school cafeteria on that day, we invite you to download and use the MPS app, available on your smart device via Google Play or the App Store (depending on your device).

Menu changes are entered immediately on the app and you can be sure that you are getting the most recent and accurate information.

As we go through this difficult time, we appreciate your patience and understanding.
